Fighting Saints Fall at Des Moines

The Dubuque Fighting Saints (14-4-1-2, 31 pts) fell on the road 2-1 to the Des Moines Buccaneers (9-8-4-0, 22 pts) on Friday night.

For the second-straight Friday night in Buccaneer Arena, the Saints opened the scoring, but couldn’t hold on in the third period to close out a win. It’s just Dubuque’s fourth regulation loss and third road-loss this season, with two coming in the last week against Des Moines.

Dubuque is back at home tonight to take on the Lincoln Stars at ImOn Arena.

COLLEGE

Men’s Basketball

  • Iowa State (6-2, 0-0 Big 12) was clicking on all cylinders offensively Friday night, as it defeated DePaul (1-6, 0-0 BIG EAST) 99-80 behind a Tamin Lipsey triple-double – the seventh in Iowa State history – as part of the BIG EAST/Big 12 Battle. Lipsey ended with 15 points, 10 boards and 10 dimes.

Wrestling

  • The fourth-ranked University of Iowa men’s wrestling team defeated the University of Pennsylvania, 22-13.
  • At the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. The Iowa State won 19 matches with bonus points and sit in first place in the team standings with 88.5 points after the first day of competition

Volleyball

  • After a tight first set, the Wisconsin volleyball team swept Miami, 25-23, 25-15, 25-17, in the second round of the NCAA tournament at the UW Field House on Friday night and moving on to the Sweet 16.
