An Eastern Iowa man involved in a highway shooting incident in Jackson County last year has been sentenced.

Last week 19-year old Benton Hale of Toronto, Iowa was sentenced to serve 8 years in prison on a guilty plea to charges of going armed with intent, reckless use of a firearm, and a person ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon. Two other charges were dismissed.

Jackson County deputies arrested Hale last June near Preston on Highway 64 after a report from another man who called dispatchers claiming to be followed by another man with a gun. Authorities say during the phone conversation, gun fire was heard. The two vehicles ended up colliding with one another.
