Wahlert Baseball Advances To State….Western Dubuque Falls Short

It’s back to the state high school baseball tournament for the Wahlert Golden Eagles. Wahlert defeated Clear Creek-Amana 7-0 last night in the 3A Substate 4 championship game at Petrakis Park. Golden Eagle pitcher Foti Rigopoulos silenced the Clippers bats throwing a complete game one hitter. Wahlert head coach Kory Tuescher.

Wahlert led 1-0 before Bode Nagelmaker’s two run double with two outs, then JP Elbert laced a double to make it 4-0. Wahlert added three more in the 6th to complete the scoring.  Coach Tuescher also said the win set a new program milestone.

Top ranked Wahlert (33-9) is the number one seed and will face eighth seed Dewitt Central (25-12) at 7:30 on Monday night at Kernals Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids.

Elsewhere last night, the Western Dubuque Bobcats hopes of a baseball state championship threepeat ended last night. The 5th ranked Bobcats   lost 4-2 to Center Point-Urbana in the Substate 3 championship game at Farley Park.
