Excellent law enforcement work by the Dubuque Police Department defused what had the potential to be a tragic outcome Monday night at the Dubuque City Council meeting.
According to police, shortly after 6:30, a man identified as 41-year-old Austin Goodman of Dubuque was arrested before he could enter the meeting after resisting arrest and was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. Authorities say Goodman was dressed in a suit, the American Flag tied around his neck like a cape, a roll of duct tape around his left wrist, and duct tape over his mouth. He was also walking with his two dogs on a leash . Officers say he was live streaming the event on Facebook which they were monitoring after they learned he possibly was going to arrive to protest his interactions with the police department and other government agencies..
Goodman faces numerous charges for the incident including Interference with Official Acts While Armed with a Firearm and is in the Dubuque County Jail on $200 thousand dollars bond.
