Legendary Cuba City Coach Jerry Petitgoue Dies

Over the weekend, the basketball world lost one of its greatest high school coaches of all-time.

Cuba City’s Jerry Petitgoue, the winningest boy’s high school basketball in Wisconsin history passed away on Saturday at the age of 84.

Petitgoue spent 52 years of his coaching career at Cuba City before hanging up his clipboard. Under his leadership, the won state titles in 1981, 1991 and 1998 — and one runner-up trophy before announcing his retirement in January of 2023 and logging 1,027 wins and 249 losses.

Coach Petitgoue was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2023. He earned the Wisconsin Coach of the Year award and the National Federation of State High Association’s Boys Basketball Coach of the Year award following the 2019-20 season. He is also a member of the University of Dubuque Hall of Fame.

Funeral services will be this Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City. Visitation will be held Friday from 3 till 8 at the Cuba City High School Gymnasium.
