In the 3A Substate championship game at Petrakis Park last night, the top ranked Wahlert High School baseball team jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back in a dominating 8-1 victory over Western Dubuque and advancing to the state tournament for the third season in a row. After getting the early lead, Golden Eagle senior right hander Will Pierro was in control on the mound going 6 1/3 innings, scattering 4 hits, striking out 7 and walking 1.

The Wahlert offense banged out 14 hits on the night. The Golden Eagles now 36-and-6 on the season are the top seed for the 3A tournament and will meet number 8 seed Boone (23-9) on Monday morning at 11:30 at Lewis and Clark Park in Sioux City.
