Iowa Court Of Appeals Upholds Dubuque Murder Conviction

The Iowa Court of Appeals has upheld the murder and robbery conviction of a Chicago man.

26-year old Aaron Johnson was convicted by a Dubuque County Jury in December 2023 for the shooting death of 31-year old Lonnie Burns in February 2023 on Rhomberg Avenue in Dubuque.

Johnson’s attorney filed an appeal claiming the prosecutor engaged in misconduct and the district court erred in not providing a requested instruction on extortion, arguing Johnson had committed extortion rather than robbery.

The appeal was rejected this week by the court affirming the conviction.
