A former Galena police officer has been sentenced to prison time for possessing child pornography materials.
Yesterday in Stevenson County Circuit Court 23-year old Eli Barthel of Freeport was ordered to serve a 3-and-a-half years behind bars. He also must pay a three thousand dollar fine. Barthel plead guilty last month to one of the three charges he faced while two others were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
Barthel was arrested in June following an investigation which included the FBI and his employment with the Galena Police Department was immediately terminated
