Dubuque and Area Election Results

City of Dubuque voters went to the polls yesterday and re-elected the mayor and one of two city council incumbents along with another new face on the council

Dubuque Mayor Brad Cavanaugh held of challenger Jason Davis for another four year term winning 54 percent to 46 percent.

The City Council At-Large seat will belong to newcomer Chris Staver who defeated four time incumbent Ric Jones.

Newly elected Councilman Chris Staver, the results were 54 to 46 percent.

City Council Ward 1 also has a new member with Tyson Leyendecker defeating Carmen Hernandez 54 to 46 percent.

Council Ward 3 incumbent Danny Sprank received another term defeating challenger Matthew Henick 58 percent to 42 percent. Sprank says Central Avenue will continue to be a focus in his next term.

Voters in the Dubuque Community School District once again rejected a school bond referendum. The 70-million dollars would have been used to help build a new middle school building. The vote needed 60 percent approval for passage, but the yes vote only received 57 percent with 43 percent voting No.

Two incumbents on the Dubuque School board retained their seats with Nancy Bradley and Anderson Sainci being re-elected to another term along with Mae Hingten.
