City and school elections are taking place across the state of Iowa today.
In Dubuque there is a race for Mayor and three city council seats on the ballot
- The mayor’s race has incumbent Brad Cavanaugh being challenged by Jason Davis.
- City Council At-Large has incumbent Ric Jones being opposed by challenger Chris Staver
- City Council Ward 1 will have a newcomer on the council after the votes are counted with Tyson Leyendecker and Carmen Hernandez in the race
- City Council Ward 3 features incumbent Danny Sprank against challenger Matthew Henick.
Dubuque Community School District voters are deciding on a school bond referendum and electing three members to the school board.
Voters will decide on a 70-million dollars bond referendum which would help fund the construction of a new middle school building to combine Washington and Jefferson Middle Schools.
There are four candidates for the three open seats on the school board with incumbents Nancy Bradley and Anderson Sainchi along with Mae Hintgen and Delano Cain-Watson.
There are a few other contested city election races in Dubuque County
- In Asbury there are four candidates for 3 seats on the city council. The candidates are Mark Schemmel, Craig Miller, Karen Klinkhammer, and Russ Domeyer
- In Bernard there are four candidates for three city council seats: Joanne Merfeld, Patrick Hentges, Rory Becker, and Jessica Clark
- In Farley there are three candidates for two council seats: Matthew Lammers, Brett Morris, adnd Corey Birkel.
- Peosta has a contested council race with four candidates for three seats: James Boxleiter, Ben Hanten, John Kraft, and Eric Ostermann
- Sageville also has a contested council race for three seats there are four candidates: Molly Laaker, Cheryl Ann Specht, Samuel Kenniker, and Carolyn Gottschalk.
There is also a contested school board election in the Western Dubuque School District. The District 1 board set has two candidates with Karen Ertl and Chad Ostwinkle.
