The first major winter storm of the season has arrived. Snow began falling late last night around the area and forecasters say it will continue, heavy at times through the day before ending early tomorrow morning.
A Winter Storm Warning continues for all of Iowa, much of Wisconsin and Illinois thru Sunday morning. National Weather Service forecasters predict the Dubuque area could see between 7 and 11 inches of additional snowfall on top of what fell overnight. The all-time record for a November single day snowfall in Dubuque is 10.3 inches recorded on November 25, 1992.
Significant travel impacts are expected today through Sunday morning. Wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour are possible leading to blowing and drifting snow along with reduced visibilities.
- City of Dubuque plows are out trying to keep the main roads clear. In an effort to assist them, the City of Dubuque is offering free parking in downtown parking ramps through Monday morning at 7 o’clock.
- In another note the City of Dubuque cancelled all trash, recycling, yard waste, and food scrap collections today. Residents on Thursday collection routes who were going to have trash picked up today will be able to have an additional four bags of trash at no extra charge this Thursday.
