Western Dubuque’s Brett Harris has received a state honor and is now eligible for the national award.
During Wednesday night’s W-D and Cedar Rapid Xavier baseball doubleheader, Harris was presented the Iowa NFHS Spirit of Sport Award.
Harris was being honored for showing perseverance, leadership and commitment to Western Dubuque athletics after being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2023. Along the way, he has also helped raise awareness and funds for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
The graduating senior will continue his baseball career at Ole Miss.
