Roosevelt Middle School Expansion Designs

KCRG- The Dubuque Community School District has reviewed preliminary designs to expand Roosevelt Middle School. In May, the school board voted to approve a $30 million bond to expand Roosevelt as it plans to close Jefferson Middle School, the district’s oldest and smallest middle school. When work on Roosevelt is complete before the 2028-29 school year, it will hold about two-thirds of the district’s middle schoolers. The remaining students will attend Washington Middle School.
Renderings from INVISION architects show how the district can hold the additional students with two primary additions on the west and north sides of the building, blending the additions to avoid a distinct new-old contrast. The designs also include renovations to change the school’s main entrance and creating a new secondary entrance on the west side of the building with another parking lot and a drop-off area. The district plans to use up to $30 million in sales tax funding called “SAVE” dollars for the project, and it will not raise property taxes. Designs include expanded space for athletics and special education programming. The architects plan to continue developing the designs with feedback from teachers and focus groups this summer and bring it to the board again in the fall.
