BOSTON, Massachusetts (KCRG) – Second-seeded Iowa State will try to get to the Elite Eight for their first time since the 1999-2000 season, but high-flying Illinois stands in their way.

According to advanced analytics on Kenpom.com, the Fighting Illini have the top offense in the sport, while ISU boasts the top defense.

“it’s really fun a lot of people would say this is going to be one of the best games in the Sweet 16,” said freshman Milan Momcilovic. “They’re a good defense too, and we’re good on offense, so it’s not just their offense and our defense. It’s gonna be fun on both sides of the ball.”

“We’re just chomping at the bit, knowing we are the number one defense,” said senior Tre King. “We’ve known that, but everyone else recognizes it now, going up against the number one offense I’m excited to see who comes out on top.”

Illinois’ Terrence Shannon Jr. will be a handful, averaging over 23 points per game, good for third best in the country.
