Lafayette Police

Two Layfayette County sheriff’s deputies and a Darlington police officer have been cleared of any criminal charges related to an incident where a southwest Wisconsin man died while being arrested.

February 12th, 44-year old Gregory Marcotte of Shullsburg died while being taken into custody in Shullsburg. Law enforcement officers had been called on the report of a man acting erratically and yelling profanities and arrested Marcotte.

The incident was reviewed by Layfayette County District Attorney Jenna Gill and yesterday Gill said there was no evidence of crime committed by any of the officers and no charges would be filed.

The officers involved have all returned to duty.
