Lightning Strike Causes Dubuque Fire

Fire

A family of five made it out safely after a lightning strike started a fire at their Dubuque home early Tuesday morning. Fire crews responded to a call about the fire at around 5 a.m. in the 600 block of Florence Street. After crews arrived, they said they confirmed everyone had exited the home safely. Then they worked to extinguish the fire and to clear the smoke and find any hot spots that remained. Firefighters confirmed the fire started when lightning struck the top of the house. The home was, however, determined to still be habitable, and the two adults and three children were able to return after firefighters completed their work. No injuries were reported.
