The city of Dubuque may be looking at taking over a portion of the demolition of the Dubuque Brewing and Malting building after the property owner has missed key deadlines. When the City Council meets tomorrow night, they are scheduled to discuss the issue.
The Housing & Community Development Director is asking the council to approve funds to remove dangerous building elements and secure the site.
Building owner Steve Emerson was given a deadline of June 21st to complete key demolition work which would allow the reopening of 30th street at the location, but work has stalled.
Last week, Emerson was notified by the city on that they would be taking further action to abate the risk to public safety.
