The Grant County Sheriff’s Department is investigating whether or not Hate Crime Charges could be filed in connection with an incident earlier this month near Hazel Green.
On Sunday, August 18th, deputies investigated a large group fight that had occurred during the early morning hours on Sandy Lane in Jamestown Township. Authorities say a graphic video of the incident depicting some of what occurred was also posted to social media, which included racial slurs.
The investigation so far has revealed there were multiple individuals, juveniles and adults, involved in the incident.
Authorities say so far only one person, 20-year old Anthony Drapeau of Hazel Green has been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and misdemeanor battery for his involvement, but say a number of other individuals will likely face charges. The sheriff says evidence has been presented to the District Attorney as to whether a hate crime enhancer can be applied to any of the charges.
