Prairie du Chien Police have released more information about a death investigation including the name of the man who died and the man who has been arrested and charged with the death.
Police say 65-year-old Daniel Welsch of Prairie du Chien has been identified as the victim and the man charged with first degree reckless homicide is 39-year-old Jesse Slaughter.
Late Friday night, police in Prairie du Chien were called to a home in the one-thousand block of East Wisconsin Street on a welfare check and found Welsch dead. Authorities say he had wounds consistent with trauma caused by a sharp object.
On Saturday afternoon, law enforcement conducted a search warrant at a home on Classic Lane near Platteville and Slaughter was taken into custody and booked in the Crawford County Jail.
Authorities say the investigation shows Slaughter and Welsch knew one another and say it does not appear to be a random act of violence. The investigation is continuing.
