The city of Dubuque says an internal gas leak at the Water and Resource Recovery Center (WRRC), Dubuque’s wastewater treatment facility, caused an explosion.
Yesterday afternoon shortly before one o’clock Dubuque Fire and Police were called to the facility on Julien Dubuque Drive and found the fire. The blaze was controlled and the gas was turned off while crews investigated. There were no injuries reported, there was some interior damage, but officials say there is no change in operations and no impact on customers.
An investigation indicates a gas leak in the sludge processing building at the facility caused the explosion.
