The Dubuque Parks and Recreation Commission has now signaled their support of the proposed development plan for Chaplain Schmitt Island.
At their monthly meeting on Tuesday, the commission voted unanimously to recommend the plan to the Dubuque City Council.
The move was a change in direction after the commission earlier this year wanted to receive more public input before making their recommendation.
In November, the city and Dubuque Racing Association which commissioned the redevelopment study for Schmitt Island held an information session for the public and extended a comment period which the Park and Rec Commission said satisfied their concern.
The plan is expected to come before the city council for approval at a future meeting.
