A man received minor injuries and was arrested yesterday after crashing his car twice in southwest Wisconsin. The second time he crashed, the car started on fire.
The Grant County Sheriff says shortly after 6 yesterday morning they received a 9-1-1- report of a hit and run on Highway 81 in Ellenboro Township. The caller from the other vehicle, wasn’t injured and told dispatchers, the SUV which hit them took off at a high rate of speed toward Lancaster. A deputy then found the SUV in the ditch and on fire near the roundabout, just south of Lancaster.
Investigators say 22-year old Brandon Phelps of Morris, Illinois drove though the roundabout, knocked down a light pole, and ended up in the ditch. The car was destroyed by the fire. Phelps was treated and released from Grant Regional Health Center and booked into the Grant County Jail and he faces a number of traffic charges including 2nd Offense OWI.
