Dubuque Man Pleads Guilty To Federal Gun Charge

A Dubuque man now faces up to 15 years in federal prison.

Yesterday in federal court in Cedar Rapids, 32-year old Nicolas Welter pled guilty and was convicted of one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Last year in October, law enforcement found Welter in possession of a loaded stolen handgun while he was sitting in a vehicle in Dubuque. He has prior felony convictions for theft second degree and burglary third degree.

Besides facing up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced, Welter must pay a $250-thousand dollar fine, and will serve three years of supervised release following prison time.
