A one vehicle accident in Jo Daviess County sent a northwest Illinois man to the hospital.

The Jo Daviess County Sheriff says the crash happened around 5 o’clock Sunday afternoon on Route 84 South near Elizabeth. The Sheriff says a vehicle driven by 23-year old David Gergenti of Hanover went off the road, struck a guardrail, slid down an embankment, and overturned.

Authorities say Gergenti was able to climb out of the vehicle. When emergency crews arrived, he was taken to Midwest Medical Center in Galena for treatment.  Distracted driving while using a cellphone is being blamed on causing the crash and charges were filed.
