A discarded cigarette in an ash tray smoldering all night was found to be the cause of a fire early Saturday in Dubuque.
Dubuque Firefighters were called to 3775 Hillcrest Road shortly before five in the morning for a reported house fire. When crews arrived they found the deck on the rear of the home in flames. The fire spread to the kitchen and dining room area before firefighters were able to put it out.
Damages were estimated around $28000. There were no injuries and the fire was determined to be accidental.
