The Multicultural Family Center (MFC) Board of Directors says due to the loss of AmeriCorps funding, the Summer Teen Empowerment Program (STEP) will be paused for this summer.

The MFC says the STEP offers high school elective credit to students seeking “real-world experiences program teaching a wide variety of topics, including gardening, financial literacy, and how to plan ahead for the future.

AmeriCorps members mentored students involved in STEP, guiding them through activities and offering academic support.

MFC leaders say they are hopeful the funding will be restored so the program can continue.
