Dubuque City Council to consider redevelopment of two historic buildings

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) – On Monday night, the Dubuque City Council is set to consider the redevelopment of two historic buildings.

Plastic Center, Inc. has proposed to redevelop 408 W 5th Street into an apartment building, housing nine rental units. The project will use historic tax credits and workforce housing tax credits to restore the exterior of the building. The project will cost approximately $3.2 million. The city will consider incentives totaling $450,000 to redevelop the building.

The city will also consider the redevelopment of 1301 Central Avenue.

1301 Central, LLC, has proposed to redevelop the property into market rate apartment units. The project will also use historic tax credits to restore the exterior of the building. The developer is proposing to create 30 apartment units in the upper stories of the property, and add seven commercial storefronts on the lower level of the property. The project will cost approximately $8 million, and is up for $1.3 million in incentives.
