Dubuque Police have arrested three men after they allegedly took over 33-thousand dollars in cash from an A-T-M at a Dubuque Bank using a high tech method.
Facing charges of first degree theft, second degree criminal mischief, and ongoing criminal conduct are 22-year old Jhonger Suarez, 38-year old Ysmael Jimenez, and 21-year old Christian Gomez who are each being held on $200-thousand dollars bond in the Dubuque County Jail.
Police say last Tuesday they were contacted by Fidelity Bank and Trust on Cedar Cross Road reporting their ATM being tampered with. Upon investigation, police found the cash was fraudulently taken with a method know as ATM jackpotting where and device such as laptop or smartphone is connected to the machine and force it to dispense cash.
Police say last week the three men also attempted to gain access to ATM’s at bank locations in Anamosa, Calmar, New Hampton, and Janesville but were unsuccessful.
Last Wednesday, Suarez, Jimenez, and Gomez were tracked to a hotel in Cedar Rapids where they were taken into custody after a search where authorities seized several electronic devices.
