Dubuque Schools Approve Personal Electronic Device Policy

The Dubuque Community School Board unanimously approved a new policy for Student Use of Personal Electronic Devices .

The policy will take effect this fall and will prohibit students from using personal electronic devices during the school day. The exception will be for high school students who will be allowed to use devices during their lunch period, but only in the cafeteria area.

The state of Iowa recently passed a state law requiring Iowa school boards to set policies for cellphone use.

In other business, the school board approved a 2-point-8 percent increase in salary for school superintendent Amy Hawkins. The raise will see Hawkins be paid $242-thousand-110 dollars and receive an additional   $17-thousand-500 dollars in a retirement account. Hawkins has served as superintendent since March 2022.
