New Horizons Academy, downtown Dubuque’s new daycare facility is ready to open its doors for operation this week.
The facility at 799 Locust Street was built for employees at Cottingham and Butler who are given first priority for child day care, but the public can apply for any open slots. Officials say more than 80 children are already enrolled, and the center can accommodate up to 180.
Work on the project started in the fall of 2023 after crews demolished the former Joliet Events Center to make way for the project with an estimated construction valued on nearly $9-million dollars. Cottingham and Butler received a nearly $3-million dollar grant to support the project.
