City Water Rates Dropping 1% Following City Council Action

Dubuque City Council

Water rates in the City of Dubuque won’t be quite as high as anticipated following action last night by the Dubuque City Council.

The council voted unanimously to acknowledge the city would be receiving a 3.4 million dollar settlement from the 3-M company over the next eight years.  The settlement money will help bring down new water rates by one percent. Beginning July 1st water rates will now go up 8 percent over last year instead of the 9 percent the City Council approved in April. This will lower the average water bill by about 40 cents a month to around $42-dollars-18 cents per month.

3-M is paying the settlement for being the manufacturer of aqueous film-forming foam, a fire retardant containing P-FAS or forever chemicals.
