In northwest Illinois, a police chase ended this morning in Savannah with multiple officers shot and wounded along with the suspect who was airlifted to the hospital.
Authorities say it started last night when Freeport police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. When officers found the vehicle, officials said the driver took off and hit a squad car. Officers eventually lost the vehicle and ended the chase.
Later a Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Deputy later found the stolen vehicle near Hanover and gave chase briefly.
Officials said the suspect was found again early this morning near Savanna and another pursuit went into Savannah with shots being fired by the suspect. The suspect then hit a squad car, later another officer made physical contact with the suspect and more shots were reportedly fired.
Officials said multiple officers from the Savanna and Mount Carroll Police Departments and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office were injured and taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect had to be airlifted to a regional hospital where he is listed as “stable”.
The incident is under investigation by Illinois State Police.
