Our coverage partner KCRG reports the City of Dubuque AmeriCorps program has been awarded $362-thousand-250 dollars in federal funds, just a few months after the Trump administration cancelled funding for the program.
Dubuque Community Impact Director Antonio Mouzon says starting in September, the year-long AmeriCorps grant will let the city recruit 34 members to provide recreational and mentoring opportunities for children.
The AmeriCorps members will help students do their homework, manage stress and emotions, connect with their peers, and more.
The AmeriCorps members will also serve at the Dubuque Community School District, Hillcrest Family Services, Carnegie Stout Public Library, and the Dubuque Parks and Recreation Department.
