Dubuque City Council Restores Gender Identity Protections

Dubuque City Council

In a special session last night, the Dubuque City Council restored gender identity protections in city code after council members said they were mistakenly removed last week.

At the council’s regular meeting on July 7th, the council says it intended to remove language referring to equity and inclusion from the Human Rights Ordinance to comply with a new state law. In a vote of 5-2, the council passed an ordinance that omitted gender identity from the list of protected groups in city code.
