Mississippi Bridge At Lansing Being Demolished This Fall

The Iowa Department of Transportation say the Mississippi River Bridge at Lansing will be demolished sometime this fall.

The D.O.T. says the new bridge under construction won’t be open until 2027 leaving a significant period of time with no bridge access there.

The D.O.T. says project engineers decided future construction stages on the new bridge may cause safety risks to the existing bridge, forcing them to demolish the bridge earlier than anticipated.

The closure date for the bridge will be decided later this year.

The project team is looking at other opportunities for river including the possibility of reintroducing water taxi service.
