The Wahlert High School baseball team punched their ticket to the Class 3A semi finals at the state baseball tournament in Sioux City yesterday by defeating Boone 3-1 in quarterfinals.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 4th when the Golden Eagles plated all three of their runs. Boone answered with their only run of the game in the top for the fifth inning. Wahlert starting pitcher Will Pierro worked 4 ⅔ innings and relief pitcher Brandon Cummer came on and recorded 7 straight outs to preserve the win as the pitching duo limited Boone to just four hits.
Wahlert now 37-and-6 and the season and will play Wednesday evening at 5 o’clock in the semi-finals against Saydel.
This morning at 11, the Cascade Cougars will meet top seed Underwood in the Class 2A tournament taking place in Carroll.

At the State Softball Tournament in Fort Dodge, top ranked Wahlert Catholic survived a scare in the quarterfinals nipping 8th seed Center Point-Urbana 1-0 to advance to the 3A semifinals. Wahlert pitcher Julia Roth allowed just 2 hits and struck out 10. The lone run scored on a 2 out RBI double by Ruth Tauber in the bottom of the 5th.
Wahlert will face #4 seed PCM on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30.
The Western Dubuque Bobcats came up short in the 4A quarterfinals as W-D lost to North Polk 8-7 in a 9 inning heart breaker. Western Dubuque will play Norwalk at 2:30 today in a consolation game.
This afternoon in Class 2A the Cascade Cougars are the 6 seed and will square off with 3 seed West Lyon at 3 o’clock.
