The Wahlert High School baseball and softball teams will both be playing for state championships on Friday.
At the State Baseball Tournament in Sioux City, the top ranked Golden Eagles defeated Saydel 10-0 in 5 innings to move their record to 38-and-6. Wahlert piled on 5 runs in the 3rd to go up 6-0, then scored 3 more in the 4th and finished Saydel off with one more run in the 5th. The Golden Eagle bats collect 10 hits including Will Spect going 3 for 4 and scoring twice. Starting pitcher Foti Rigopolous gave up just 3 hits while striking out 7, at the plate he had 2 RBI’s. Wahlert will meet Pella for the 3A state championship at noon on Friday at noon at Lewis and Clark Park.
At the State Softball Tournament in Fort Dodge, top ranked Wahlert hit 3 home runs and used brilliant defense to defeat PCM 7-1 to go to advance to the state championship game on Friday afternoon. Wahlert pitcher Julia Roth hit a 3 run homer to spark a 4 run 4th inning and hit a solo shot in the 5th. Natalie Ruba hit the other Golden Eagle home run as Wahlert moved their record to 36 and 7 and will meet two time defending state champion Williamsburg for the 3A title on Friday at 2:30.

The State Championship softball broadcast will air on 101.1 The River starting at 2:30 on Friday.
