Two people were arrested in Dubuque Saturday night after an incident in which a man threatened another with a 23-inch-long machete. Dubuque Police arrested 50 year old Lionel Stampley, no permanent address, around 8:15pm in the 1400 block of Washington Street on multiple charges including assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon while under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication. Police also took 61 year old Marvin L. McDowell, of 383 Locust St., No. R1, into custody just minutes later in the 1400 block of Washington Street. He was charged with assault and fifth-degree criminal mischief. Court documents state that Stampley and McDowell were involved in the altercation in the 1400 block of Washington Street at approximately 7:35pm when Stampley pulled a 23-inch-long machete with an 18-inch-long blade from a bag. Footage from a city traffic camera shows Stampley with the knife and McDowell punching Stampley.
