Torrential rains that fell over the weekend are forcing the temporary closure of Swiss Valley Park and Campgrounds. Dubuque County Conservation says the park is closed while they continue to assess the damage and clean-up.
Officials say Sunday morning between 5 and 6 inches of rain fell in that area of Dubuque County causing flash flooding at the park and campground. The rushing water damaged bridges, flattened prairies, and knocked down trees. Park officials say campers at the campground were able safely evacuate and get to higher ground.
