A Galena man died and a woman was injured after the vehicle they were attempting to get out of suddenly started rolling down a hill and crashed.
The Jo Daviess County Sheriff says the accident happened Tuesday afternoon around 2 o’clock near Galena on private property. Authorities say 82-year old Beverly Van Dyke-Klaersch was on the driver’s side of the vehicle and getting out when it started going forward. She tried to get back inside and stop it, but was thrown out. Her passenger 77-year old William Klaersch was unable to get out of the vehicle before it crashed into several trees and ended up in a ravine.
William Klaersch died of his injuries. Beverly Van Dyke-Klaersch was taken to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque.
