Several Grant County Fire Departments Receive Federal Funding

NEWS WISCONSIN

11 Grant County fire departments and EMS agencies are sharing nearly 858-thousand dollars in federal funding to replace outdated and aging equipment.

The Blue River & Avoca fire department is receiving the largest amount with around $301-thousand dollars to replace low-pressure self-contained breathing apparatus packs and spare bottles.

The Dickeyville Fire Department is receiving nearly $222-thousand dollars to replace low-pressure self-contained breathing apparatus packs with high-pressure models.

Grant County Emergency Management says the funding was awarded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency Firefighters Grant program.

The following departments will receive funding:
Bagley Fire Department — $86,190
To replace aging and damaged turnout gear (coats, pants, boots, helmets, hoods, and gloves).
Blue River & Avoca Fire Departments — $301,047 (Regional Award)
To replace outdated, low-pressure SCBA packs and spare bottles with modern high-pressure units. Blue River will also receive a new compressor/filling station for its high-pressure SCBA system.
Boscobel EMS — $20,000
To purchase an advanced-skills training manikin for realistic training scenarios.
Dickeyville Fire Department — $221,885
To replace outdated, low-pressure SCBA packs with high-pressure models, increasing firefighter air supply and incorporating modern safety features.
Hazel Green Fire Department — $27,238
To purchase a skid-mounted firefighting unit to improve the department’s brush fire response capabilities.
Jamestown Fire Department — $72,617
To replace aging and damaged turnout gear.
Lancaster EMS — $14,857
To purchase a motorized stair chair, helping providers move patients safely while preventing back injuries.
Livingston Fire Department — $7,669
To purchase a washer/extractor to properly clean turnout gear after fires, reducing firefighter exposure to carcinogens.
Mount Hope Fire Department — $69,005
To replace aging and damaged turnout gear.
Stitzer Fire Department — $6,273
To purchase a four-gas meter for hazardous atmosphere monitoring and automated defibrillators for placement on apparatus.
West Grant EMS — $31,028
To provide NFPA-compliant protective clothing for volunteers who currently respond to calls in street clothes, significantly improving safety during trauma calls and infectious disease exposures.
All agencies receiving grants are required to provide only a 5% local cost-share, making this a highly cost-effective investment for our communities.
