UPDATE on Train Derailment in Jo Daviess County

We have more details about a train derailment this morning in eastern Jo Daviess County.

Reports indicate up to 20 railcars carrying ethanol of an 82 car Canadian Northern train went off the tracks shortly after midnight in the town of Nora.

Around 100 residents of Nora had to be evacuated from the area. Fortunately no injuries have been reported.

Several fire departments, hazmat teams, law enforcement agencies, and railroad personnel have been on the site cleaning up. Authorities urge the public to avoid the area as cleanup efforts continue.

There has been a train derailment in eastern Jo Daviess County this morning.

According to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff, shortly after midnight multiple train cars went off the tracks in the town of Nora at the railroad crossing on North Stagecoach Trail near East Chestnut Street.

Several fire departments, hazmat teams, law enforcement agencies, and railroad personnel are on-scene.  There were no injuries reported.

Authorities are asking people avoid that area as crews will be cleaning up.  They say North Stagecoach trail in the area will be closed for an extended amount of time.
