Cross Country State Qualifying Meets in 3A and 4A on Wednesday
Class 4A:
At Iowa City
Boys: With a 1st place team finish, Dubuque Senior advanced to the state meet with Jack Kirman leading the way in 9th overall.
Girls: Senior advanced for the 10th straight season with a 2nd place team finish led by Emma Chesterman who was medalist.
At Marshalltown
Boys: Hempstead qualified for the state meet with a 2nd place team finish. Henry Maloney led the Mustangs by finishing sixth
Girls: Chelsea Heiberger of Hempstead claimed an individual spot at state.
Class 3A
At Manchester
Boys: Western Dubuque qualified for state behind the District championship run for defending state medalist Quentin Nauman. The Bobcats placed 3rd in the team race. Wahlert’s Jayden Brookins also advanced
Girls: Wahlert Catholic advanced with a 3rd place team finish led by Lucy Murphy placing 3rd. Izzy Hardin of Maquoketa won the district title to advance.
Today 1A and 2A state qualifying meets will take place. The State Meet is next Friday and Saturday in Fort Dodge.

With the upset win, the Spartans defeated the Duhawks for the first time since 2014 (11 years), and were able to snap the Duhawks’ 48 game regular season and conference tournament streak that has been in tact since the 2020 season.
