Two Chicago men have been arrested in a tap to pay scam in Dubuque.
Police say the men are accused of being involved with making up a story about a cousin who they claimed was shot in Cedar Rapids and they asked donations using a phone to process a credit card.
Police say on at least two occasions in on September 26th in front of two different Dubuque grocery stores, the men were successful in getting victims to give them a credit card which was processed with a chip reader on a phone.
Police say thousands of dollars were taken from each victim’s accounts instead of the few dollars each one said they would donate to the phony cause.
