The Iowa National Guard has confirmed the names of the Iowa National Guard killed in an attack in Syria. They were identified as 29 year old Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard of Marshalltown and 25 year old Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres Tovar of Grimes. They were both members of the 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry Regiment. The soldiers are among about 1,800 Iowa National Guard deployed to the Middle East in May, part of a counter-terrorism effort called “Operation Inherent Resolve.” Governor Kim Reynolds has ordered flags be flown half-staff to honor the soldiers.
