Two people are dead following a shooting incident involving police early this morning outside a downtown Dubuque bar.
Dubuque Police say shortly before 1 this morning, officers came upon a physical fight taking place in front of Odd Fellows at 481 Locust Street. Authorities say while an officer got out of his patrol car one of the men involved shot another person in the fight with a handgun. The officer then fired at the man who had reportedly shot the other person. That man was found inside the bar suffering from a gunshot wound.
Both people who were shot were taken to Dubuque hospitals where they later died from their injuries.
Dubuque Police and the Iowa D.C.I. are investigating and currently no names are being released.
The officer involved in the incident was not injured and has been placed on Critical Incident Leave in accordance with Dubuque Police Department policy.
