Coverage partner KCRG reports a pair of intersections along Highway 20 in Dubuque County could close this spring after crashes tripled in the area over two years.
Data from an Iowa DOT study shows there were five crashes on Highway 20 near Cox Springs Road and Thunder Hills Road in 2022, tripling to 15 in 2024. The increase comes as Peosta’s population has more than tripled since 2000.
The DOT says it received nearly 500 responses from the community about traffic along Highway 20 near Peosta, with many commenting on visibility concerns or calling the intersections “dangerous” or “unsafe.”
