Doctors and public health officials across the Tri-States say flu activity remains elevated this winter — and they’re especially urging people with underlying health conditions to seek care quickly if symptoms appear.
Dubuque County health officials say an earlier-than-usual increase in flu cases is being seen this year, and current trends do not yet show a decline in flu activity.
Over the past two weeks, both local hospitals have reported an increased number of patients presenting with influenza, placing added strain on health care systems. Local health officials place the strongest emphasis on staying home when sick as the most effective way to slow the spread of influenza.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, flu activity is still elevated nationwide, with at least 15 million flu illnesses reported so far this season.
