The Dubuque City Council met Monday night.
The council unanimously approved a new ordinance to regulate food trucks in the city.
The ordinance will require vendors to have license fees for both public and private property. The hours of operation can now also go to midnight on weekends. The ordinance also requires a food truck to be at least 100 feet from a restaurant and they also can’t sell alcohol.
Licenses will be available for six months or one year and will be available at the city clerk’s office.
In other action: a tract of land in the Port of Dubuque will go back on the market. The council voted unanimously to terminate a contract with Merge Urban Development Group to build an apartment complex with retail space next to the Diamond Jo Casino.
The group which announced the project in 2019 reportedly failed to receive adequate financing. Merge must pay 2.5 years of property tax and give up all rights to the property.
