The Wahlert Catholic and Maquoketa girls basketball teams both advanced to the 3A semifinals at the girls high school basketball state tournament at the Casey’s Center in Des Moines.
Wahlert defeated Williamsburg 56 to 47 paced by freshman Emily Tanny who nearly came up with a double-double in her first state tournament game by pouring in 30 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. The Golden Eagles will meet top ranked and defending state champions Mount Vernon on Thursday afternoon at 1:30. The game will be broadcast on AM 1370 with pregame at 1:10pm.
Maquoketa punched their ticket to the next round with an easy 57-23 victory over previously undefeated Mediapolis. The second seed Cardinals will play on Thursday afternoon in the second semi-finals.
